Michael Caputo | MANAGING PARTNER

Michael is a trusted advisor to executives in the energy, energy services, mining, and life sciences industries. For almost 20 years, Michael has advised the boards of directors and management teams of both publicly traded and privately held companies on compensation matters.

In 2006, he founded Lane Caputo Compensation, with partner Russell Lane, to meet the needs of mid-market companies as they face an increasingly complex and often-contentious executive compensation environment. He understands the human capital needs and growth challenges of his clients and is passionate about providing true value — acting quickly to help clients interpret regulatory and governance influences, and to design compensation programs that address the needs of executives and shareholders.

Michael’s early career progressed through increasingly strategic roles with global human resource consulting firms Mercer, Towers Perrin and Watson Wyatt. At Watson Wyatt, Michael led the Executive Compensation Practice for Western Canada. Michael received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Calgary in 1997. He graduated from the University of Alberta in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science.

Russell Lane | Partner

Russell is a sought-after advisor in the financial services industry, with more than 40 years experience, spanning two continents.  Russell has internationally recognized expertise in selective executive compensation, business continuation planning, and wealth strategy planning for corporate owners and private entrepreneurs.  In 2006, he founded Lane Caputo Compensation, with partner Michael Caputo, to meet the needs of small and medium sized businesses in the executive compensation environment.

Russell specializes in designing retention packages and retirement arrangements for private corporations in order to provide reward for tenure for senior executives, thereby facilitating the succession planning process.  Russell’s intimate knowledge of insurance, re-insurance, and capital transfer strategies provides true value to our clients.

Russell was educated in London, England and began his career in Communications and Advertising, before joining one of the world’s foremost property and casualty insurance groups.  Russell was inspired to open his own financial consultancy firm in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he became the leading authority in his field. He was retained by South Africa’s largest multi-national financial group to work with their leading corporate clients.

Trevor Meyer | PARTNER

Trevor’s career has spanned the financial services industry. Since joining Lane Caputo in 2006, he has been strategically advising Boards of Directors on the planning and execution of their corporate compensation matters.

His approach to helping clients is to not simply observe, but to appreciate and understand what does and does not apply to each client. Regulators, governance organizations, and shareholders all create ‘noise’ that their issue is important. Trevor’s strength is to look strategically at the short, medium, and long-term to map out how a company should respond in today’s complex executive compensation environment.

Trevor  graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance. He began his career at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce before moving on to the Personal Financial Planning division of TE Financial Consultants.  During that time, he completed the Canadian Securities Course and earned his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designations. He is a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) and is working toward his Global Remuneration Professional (GRP) designation from World@Work.

NORA SARGENT | SENIOR COMPENSATION SPECIALIST

Nora Sargent is a results-driven HR practitioner with over 10 years of experience in compensation, operations, human resources, and finance, in both the public and private sectors.

Nora is committed to going the extra mile to deliver services and products carefully tailored to meet clients’ organizational needs. Her expertise lies in process engineering, training, documentation and facilitation, as well as total compensation administration systems, incentive program design, and human resources consulting.   

Nora is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) with a multidisciplinary Bachelor of Arts degree and a Human Resources Management Certificate, both from the University of Calgary.

Larissa Featherstone | Senior Advisor, Compensation & Systems

Larissa has almost a decade of experience in the oil and gas industry, working in business analysis, change management and systems analysis.  During that time, she designed, tested and implemented two company-wide systems.

Her strengths include enterprise analysis, identifying and understanding stakeholder requirements, working with key stakeholders at all levels to develop new systems and processes, assessing and mitigating risks, and developing communication and change strategies for projects post-launch. 

Larissa holds a Bachelor of Management Degree with Distinction from the University of Lethbridge, is a Certified Shareworks Master, and an SAP Certified Application Associate. She is working towards her Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation from WorldatWork.

Diane Howell | Senior Consultant, Compensation

Diane is a solution-oriented advisor with over 25 years of compensation experience, primarily in the oil and gas industry. She has a solid track record of providing focused, practical advice in the areas of competitive positioning, benchmarking and job evaluation, salary structures, incentives, premiums, annual program administration, salary surveys, executive compensation, expatriate practices, budgeting, reporting, and policy development.

She believes that sound compensation programs are equitable, nimble, evolving, aligned with the business objectives of the organization, mindful of shareholders’ interests, and compliant with relevant regulatory requirements.

Diane graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and later obtained a Personnel Administration Certificate from the same institution. She is a long-term volunteer with Between Friends.

WILSON MITCHELL | Senior Executive Compensation Analyst

Wilson’s area of expertise is compensation analysis for energy, energy services, mining, and life sciences industries for both national and international organizations. His areas of analytical focus include: salaries, short term incentive plans, and long term incentive plans.

His international research includes organizations with operations in Africa, Asia and South America. International operations offer unique challenges that Wilson has helped clients navigate through, including: compensation practice prevalence, country inflation, exchange rate variance, and expatriate practices.

Since Joining Lane Caputo Compensation, Wilson has continued to develop his expertise in compensation. He is working towards his Certified Compensation Professional designation.

Conrad Skrzypinski | Executive Compensation Analyst

Conrad’s research focuses on corporate governance concerns, including disclosure, regulatory compliance, and shareholder requirements. Conrad’s goal is to provide clear and concise information that clients can use to competitively position themselves in the market.

Prior to joining Lane Caputo, Conrad gained experience in corporate financial analysis, market research, and competitor analysis at positions with Talisman Energy and Athabasca Oil.

Conrad graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and is working towards his Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation. He volunteers with Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
